Despite the adversity I experienced in the first 4 days after the procedures, I must say that Day 8 is looking wonderful to me.

This is the first day I have been able to take a 1-hour walk (with wrist weights) in my neighborhood since the procedures – which enabled me to enter Phase 2 of the Holistic Cancer Recovery Model.

MOVEMENT is the second corner stone for Recovery and personal empowerment for cancer patients. It aides the body’s ability to rebuild strength, resilience, oxygenation of the blood cells, clear toxins, expand the lungs, build muscle and endurance, enhance the Immune system functioning.

It is ideal to take your exercise outside, as you then get the healing effects of nature. When my abdomen was too sore to take a long walk, I sat in a yoga position with my back supported by a pillow and a firm wall and listened to healing meditative music. Or I laid on my back and did some very lite yoga stretches for my legs, neck, shoulders and legs.

Movement also enhances your body’s ability to digest and eliminate food, flush toxins through your pores, while building an appetite after surgery and the first days of recovery.

When you exercise, no matter how limited that may be, your body releases endorphins and Serotonin – the “feel good” chemicals – that boost your mood and diminish anxiety and depression.
